Laura Zander,“Sometimes you just have to follow the yarn…”

Laura Zander ShopOriginally from North Carolina, Laura Zander ended up in California after attending a series of universities and accumulating degrees in Political Science, Sociology, and Criminology. Once in San Francisco, she switched gears and started writing software for various dot com start-ups (where she met Doug her husband).

In 2002, after 2 years of marriage and a life-changing move from San Francisco to Truckee, CA, Laura and Doug Zander emptied their savings account and opened Jimmy Beans Wool.

After three years they found that they had outgrown the 500 sq. ft. spot in downtown Truckee’s train station – and decided to open a second shop 30 miles away in Reno, NV.

Business continued to grow – and eventually both of the shops were combined and relocate into a single, larger spot! Jimmy Beans Wool has become an e-commerce giant in the yarn world with sales exceeding 8 million dollars annually. Laura and Jimmy Beans Wool have been featured in Forbes magazine, HSN, profiled as an advertising success story by Facebook, taught celebrities how to knit at the Emmys and yarn-bombed the Sundance film festival. When not knitting or working, you can find Laura on the ski hill, going for a run, playing tennis, or goofing off with Doug, the dog & her son Huckleberry.

Check out Jimmy Bean Wools viral ‘Eddie the Eagle’ social media campaign here (recently named one of the best in the world by Facebook).
